Mode 1: For this first mode we did a broad search of some current trends in society and what type of things people want or we thought they might need relating to each field. We looked at popular media and read various articles.
Our group chose to focus on the environment for our vending machine concept. We took a broad look at some current eco-friendly products.
Mode 2: We began mode two by developing a mind map, which allowed us to start to dig deeper on some environmental issues.
Mode 2: After doing some research and looking into various companies that have started making a difference in the past 20 years, We found a few big name companies that stood out to us and researched them further.
Mode 3: We had the opportunity to go out to our local Farmer's Market and ask some people about the environment and see how others are making an impact.
Mode 4: As a group we took some time to sort through all of our research and see what was most important to us.
Mode 5: We put together some sketch concepts and tried to narrow it down to a form that incorporated all the aspects that we were hoping to include.
Mode 5: As a group we wanted to see how our vending machine would function and get a feel for size relationships so we created concept models with various materials.
Mode 6: We developed a 1/4 scale abstract model to see size relationships with the part as a whole.
The interface of the machine teaches the user about the importance of recycling, as they get an incentive for helping the environment.
Our groups concept incorporates an NFC tag that can be scanned to activate accounts and track points. We also created a campaign app that allows users to set goals and purchase items online with their points.
Mode 7: Our research resulted in an organic form that was approachable for users to interact with.
